Another of the sacred places of childhood, Porter's Pool, is full of rich memories for so many of us who grew up in Carmel Valley. We all swam out to the sand bar, barely visible here beneat the surface of the water...and we all caught poison oak getting to the pool. The vegetation along the river has a luscious, verdant quality I have rarely seen elsewhere.
