Events in 2008: Paint the Aspens 2008!

Linda Dellandre

Raleigh Kinney

Jane Newman

"Paint the Aspens!,
After a week of painting the luscious fall color in the White Mountains, members of Arizona Plein Air Painters and gallery artists held a show of what they painted, a real "wet canvas show." This is the fourth year of "Paint the Aspens!" and we are proud to have it under the wings of APAP.

"Mountain Summertime" August 29 - September 20, 2008. Return of Women Artists of the West with another fabulous show!

Other doings:

"Out of Many, One" by owner-artist Gwen Pentecost was accepted into the "Top One Hundred of Paint America, 2007. The original painting sold at the opening reception. To see more about the contest, go to http://paintamerica.org.

Fun stuff: Gwen is also in the middle of a commissioned mural of the Catalina Mountains near Tucson - 50" x 9 ft (that's 9 feet - not a typo)...progress image can be found here.

"Bernard Marks" July 25 - August 9, 2008: Scenes of the Great Southwest
Solo show for this talented watercolor artist. His paintings of the west, including the Grand Canyon, are fabulous.

"The Impressionist Challenge" as answered by three dynamic artists, Leslie Allen, Cindy Carillo, and Kendra Page.

"Mother's Day Flower Show and Tea " May 10 - 24, 2008
Beginning with a Mother's Day Tea, this show brought spring to the mountains and joy to anyone who attended. It was the first time many had seen the expanded gallery space, and the flower paintings were a delight.

Leslie Allen, Maryann Bodnar Bartman, Yvonne Kitchen, Janice Muir, Elin Pendleton, and Collins Redman will be joining us regularly. Leslie Allen is a top flight landscape impressionist from Colorado. Maryann Bodnar Bartman does wonderful paintings in gouache, and our customers truly love her wolf series (you HAVE to see "Bein Bad"). Yvonne Kitchen's bronze equine sculptures, particularly her Horse Madonna series, are exquisite, and she has even sent us a bugling elk! I love the authentic feeling in Janice Muir's "Winter Mesa" as well as her other work. Collins Redman hails from both New Mexico and Colorado, and her work is very evocative the west as it is expressed in those states. We will be carrying a number of her wonderful monotypes as well. Elin and Gwen have painted together for fifteen years, and her plein air work will find a home here. She's an awesome author and workshop teacher, too, and a frequent visitor to Paint the Aspens.

And, WE'VE EXPANDED! As of mid-February, 2008, we occupy the space behind us as well as our suite on the highway at 1869 E. White Mountain Blvd., virtually doubling the show space. Stop by!
